#10 Three steps to help you develop as a leader

By |June 11th, 2020|

How can I develop as a leader?

It’s a question we don’t necessarily say out loud, but it’s something we all think about – wishing there was a quick, easy three step guide to follow. In a way, there is. So here’s my take on three steps to help you develop as a leader.

Ask

Ask God

The best place always to start is with God, to invite Him into all that we do. [Which I’ve posted about several times already in “Looking ahead to 2021” and “Transformation through the drip, drip effect“.]

So take a few

#9 What is the most important thing to develop to become a great leader?

By |May 28th, 2020|

All quality leadership books have character as a critical factor in answering the popular question of how do I become a great leader? For me, it is thee most important area to develop.

But it’s not a quick to-do list item we can quickly tick off as completed. It takes a lifetime of intentionality and consciously choosing to walk in to become a person with quality character.

So what is character?

According to the Cambridge Dictionary its:

“the particular combination of qualities in a person or place that makes them different from others.”

It’s not one thing, but the sum of many things which, when added

#8 How can we be less stressed?

By |May 14th, 2020|

I don’t know about you, but there are seasons in my life where I feel quite stressed and I find myself praying – “Lord how can I reduce my stress levels?”

Right now is one of those seasons – launching this website, preparing for new students to join our Basic Leadership program as well as revamping said program is making my days very full.

There are times, even this week when I’ve physically felt quite stressed. It’s like my insides are running, and my outsides are being dragged along because I’m so tired. I did get to the point where

#7 I’ve always got Hope

By |April 2nd, 2020|

2007 was a hard year for me. I started it living in India, suddenly losing my mum in January, then in the middle of the year my visa to continue working in India was denied. So I found myself back in Scotland in an unexpected transition, which was a lot to cope with.

I didn’t want to live by myself, so I got two cats (as they could be together at home, while I was out at work). I named the friendly one, Hope. Partly because I liked the name and partly as a side joke to my emotional struggles, I could

#6 B2b – Be the Leader God wants you 2 Be

By |March 26th, 2020|

I’m writing this post from Medias, Romania while staffing for the third time Romania’s B2b.

Before moving to Switzerland last year, I was serving with YWAM in Romania. It’s great to be back with friends who are a little like family – to continue to work together helping equip young leaders who are mostly from Romania. There are 23 students from all over Romania, many of whom are working in local churches or recently joined YWAM to be full-time staff.

What is B2B?

B2b is a one-week school developed by Stephen Mayers and Barry Austin back in the late 1990’s. They saw the need

#5 Transformation through the drip, drip effect

By |January 23rd, 2020|

It’s hard to see growth happen when we are standing so close to it. With babies, they grow so fast. Even a week can make a noticeable difference. But how about us adults? How can we see growth or development into being more like Jesus?

Our bodies do indeed stop growing at a certain age (except for our ears apparently). Yes, our bodies age and over the years we can tell we’re getting older. But how can we grow positively? How can we see the transformation Romans 12 or 2 Corinthians 3 promises us?

In my last blog –

#4 Looking ahead to 2021

By |January 9th, 2020|

2021 – yes a year from now.

As we get stuck into 2020, perhaps a little overwhelmed by the number of things we said we’d do next year, realising that’s actually now. I make sure I pause to take time to sit with God and hear His thoughts for the year ahead.

Some things are for the next few months, but some are things He wants to put in place which have a longer-term view. Somethings God has in mind for 2021 which need time in this year to accomplish.

When I was first started learning to drive, my dad would say, “Stop looking

#3 The Story Behind Laboring for Generations You’ll Never Meet

By |December 13th, 2019|

I just had my first ever article published.

It’s with Fathom Magazine titled: Laboring for Generations You’ll Never Meet.

And this blog is a little behind-the-scenes look at why it’s a wonderful surprise to me.

Geneva, Switzerland,

The city where the Protestant Reformation with John Calvin (and others) happened in the 1500s. It’s a city known to educate and bring life. Today it’s comparatively small population (500,000 residents) is the world’s place to seek peace and a significant financial centre. My fellow Writers Intensive participants and I went to take a Reformation tour to see and hear

#2 – Transition

By |November 28th, 2019|

I write this blog post as I start my application process for my Swiss Visa.

3 months ago I drove my little old yellow car from the Black sea coast of Romania to Burtigny, Switzerland. That day, as I crossed the border, I felt a pop and burst of emotion — I’d made it to Switzerland. Partly because my car had actually made the 2,700-kilometre drive (my mechanic friends weren’t sure could make it). And so I experienced what felt like bursting through a bubble into the reality of a new season. I was now physically in the land of my new
