#30 What are my values?
Each of us has values, whether we realise them or not. Often they are ones we’ve learned from our parents or ones we’ve consciously decided to have because of something we’ve experienced. So take a moment to think—what are my values?
What are values?
Maybe you are wondering what values actually are. A value is something you hold as important, worth more than something else, or set as a priority. It is something that you have as a higher standard and compare other things to it. It’s something you have an emotional attachment to. If it’s broken or disrespected, you
#29 What does Advent mean to you?
When I was praying in November about what topic to work on next with God, I realised Advent was fast approaching, and now was the perfect time to prepare a special time of Advent for this year.
For a lot of the world, the word Advent is only associated with the Advent Calendar. At this time of year, we begin the count down to Christmas with a daily reward of chocolate (or even more recently, the adult alternatives of various alcohols, beauty products or hot drink selections). Which is special in itself.
However, for Christian believers, Advent comes way before
#28 How do you work with a plan and stay flexible at the same time?
For many of us, whether in work or church contexts, we need to plan, often months in advance. But we still want to hear what God and the Holy Spirit has to say to us for TODAY. So, how do you work with a plan and stay flexible at the same time? And not go crazy!
We live in a reality where we try to plan a few months ahead but don’t actually know what else will be going on during that time which could impact our plans. As a world, we have all learned this (frequently) during COVID. What
#27 Can leaders care too much?
I used to think the answer to this was no—no way! Leaders need to care, have compassion… But over this year, I’m learning that the wiser answer to this question – can leaders care too much, is YES, in particular ways we can. Here’s why.
If you don’t know, I lead a part-time Basic Leadership Practicum (BLP) school in YWAM Burtigny. It’s a 2-year school with students (aged 18 to 30) able to join us at the start of any new quarter. They have very different personalities, callings, experiences, levels of understanding of who they are, who God is and
#26 How do we apply the things we want to change in our lives?
How do we cause growth to happen in our lives? How do we see ourselves develop into the person or leader we want to be? How do we apply the things we want to change in our lives? Great questions 🙂
It’s not just about learning a new fact to add to our knowledge base. This stays in our head, and we remember it from time to time. Change happens when we change how we do or respond to things. Change is a process starting as a conscious thought but continues through to our emotions and actions. The process to
#25 What to do with what you’ve heard from God
This is a continuation from my last blog #24 How do you know if you’ve heard God’s voice? So if you haven’t read that blog – please stop reading this one and go read that one first. Now, the question – what to do with what you’ve heard from God?
Shema
There is always a response required to whatever God has spoken to us. The Israelites didn’t have a separate word for listen and obey; they have just one – Shema. The Bible Project have a great little video (and series) on this, so please check it out.
Shema is the
#24 How do you know if you have heard God’s voice?
So how do you know if you’ve heard God’s voice? Well, part of it is always a step of faith. But here are some of the things I think about when I’m deciding if it’s God or not. Plus, it gets easier with time to recognise God’s voice, just like other people’s voices. Like I’ve said before, God is thee master communicator, but that doesn’t mean he always makes it super easy to understand him fully. But everything he does is out of love and wanting to develop our relationship with him.
The Holy Spirit
The fantastic news is that we have the
#23 How do you hear God’s voice?
A few weeks ago, I posted about the question – Does God want to talk to me? – YES is the answer. This week is a continuation of this thought – How do you hear God’s voice?
If you check out my website regularly, you will see that last week my Book of the month is Loren Cunningham’s “Is that Really you God?” It has two key messages. The first being the story of how Youth With A Mission – YWAM came into being. But the other more useful one for every reader is the stories Loren shares about
#22 Does God want to talk to me?
If you don’t know already, I want to assure you that you’re not crazy in thinking or wanting to hear God’s voice. Some of you may be asking yourself – Does God want to talk to me? Let alone, can I hear the voice of God!
Our heavenly Father wants to be in relationship with you. He wants you to know Him as much as He knows and loves you. Think of it this way, to build a relationship with someone, you need to talk to one another. When we pray, we talk to God – but communication is a
#21 Trusting God with opportunities
When God presents us with opportunities, we have a choice. Do we trust and change or stick to our plan? I have learned over the years that trusting God with opportunities is an adventure that only produces good fruit.
My life this past month has been crazy busy. Hence not posting anything last week. I don’t like my life to be this full too often – it’s not good for our health if it goes on too long. But while preparing to start our B2B (Be the Leader God wants you to be) seminar, God challenged and confirmed that I
